Outdoor blanket company Rumpl is at it again with another artist collaboration through their Rumpl Artist Division (RAD) program, this time with famed Austrian graphic designer, storyteller, and typographer Stefan Sagmeister. And the resulting Beautiful Shapes Down Puffy Blanket is officially out today, April 29.
If you're wondering how the relatively odd pairing came about, the story goes Rumpl Founder Wylie Robinson proposed the collaboration through a generic contact form on the designer’s website. And to his surprise, Rumpl received a swift response. From there, the blanket’s design unfolded through a series of digital conversations and Sagmeister's own research into a universally-held concept of Beauty. (Moral of the story: Always shoot your shot!)
Sagmeister argues that beauty is not “in the eye of the beholder”, but is instead, an objective perception that humans share, emphasizing its overall importance in our everyday lives.
Surveying Rumpl's Instagram followers (like, with a literal IG Story survey), Sagmeister and team presented a series of shapes and asked which they found to be the most beautiful. The circle won among the crowd, with the rectangle coming in last.
