Be it a garment made from other garments or Carhartt beanie made of bread, Nicole McLaughlin never fails to captivate minds across social media platforms when she shares her latest creations with the world. Sensing opportunities to create fun, limited-release products, many leading outdoor brands have approached the designer to collaborate on unique products–offering the closest thing fans can get to taking home her viral one-offs. Case in point: the all-new Rumpl x Nicole McLaughlin.
Today, we’re graced by two products made in collaboration with leading outdoor blanket brand Rumpl, marking their second collaboration with the unique upcycling designer. The two-piece release consists of a signature print of the compact NanoLoft Travel Blanket ($125) and the Rumpl Pack Mat ($145), a hybrid outdoor gear tote and a compact waterproof mat for chilling or changing.
We suspect McLaughlin’s rework of Rumpl’s Everywhere Mat into the new 38x52” Rumpl Pack Mat might glean some inspiration from the fold-out tarp of a typical climbing rope bag. Opened flat, an inner microsuede top wears a green concentric print that will resist water and stains, while its durable waterproof outer layer will keep your bum protected from soggy surfaces. Once folded up and clipped into tote form, adjustable shoulder straps allow for a crossbody or shoulder bag carry method.
The same concentric pattern appears on a signature style of the 38x52” NanoLoft Travel Blanket, this time in a somber “mist blue” colorway that should provide a little mental warmth on top of its down-like baffled insulation. Once packed into the included stuff sack, the ¾-pound blanket takes up a little more space than a one-liter bottle.
If you’ve been reading closely, you’ve noticed the Rumpl Pack Mat and NanoLoft Travel Blanket both offer their respective waterproof ground covering and lightweight, toasty camp blanket capabilities in the same 38x52” footprint. Fans of McLaughlin’s work and maintaining ideal comfort outdoors will be well-advised to grab both!
