James Yuji Sumantri

A Japanese-Indonesian raised in Singapore, James Yuji Sumantri is a New York-based writer and architectural designer with a love for the great outdoors. As a working architectural/interior designer, I research and cover stories that live somewhere along the intersection of architecture, culture, interior design and the outdoors.

Having been lucky to grow up in a multi-cultural and international background, I have also had the opportunity to travel vastly across the world throughout my life—these experiences are formative to my understanding, knowledge and passion for architecture and design and particularly in its ability to bridge our disconnect to nature, culture and ourselves. Having also spent a summer in Hawaii working for a firm specializing in Historic Preservation, this is a topic and avenue of sustainability that further serves as a cornerstone of my ability and passion for covering such stories.

James holds a Bachelor of Architecture degree from the University of Notre Dame.
