Having spent substantially more time at home during this past year has given us all a greater appreciation for achieving high levels of comfort at home. Those of us fortunate enough to have the privilege to work from home can spend days in quarantine before needing to venture out for sustenance and fresh air. From quilted slippers to comfy house coats, we’ve increased cozy levels by embracing comfort wear in all aspects of indoor life (yes that includes comfort food, too).
Similarly inspired by spending more time indoors—and cranking said comfy levels to 11—is Peace Cabin, a new home goods company launched mid-pandemic by a husband-and-wife team in Pennsylvania. Peace Cabin aims to create products that are relevant, well-designed, and sustainable, to encourage a cabin-like atmosphere wherever you may be.
The emerging brand offers a clever flat-pack stool and useful woven hanging S-hooks for everyday application, but the focus of their current offerings are three styles of portable seating cushions that pair as well with your go-to "home office" chair as the patio ground or a fireside log.
We can easily imagine a slew of them strewn about the future A-frame cabin of our dreams as well.
Skipping ubiquitous polyester fills, Peace Cabin makes use of their own blend of kapok fibers, natural latex foam, and raw cotton to create a supportive, comfortable fill that’s both all-natural and biodegradable. Though this effort goes largely unseen by the consumers, it is no less a major step in saving landfills from receiving more synthetic materials that are resistant to breaking down.
The Keystone State-sewn cushions are wrapped in a variety of fabrics that are sure to suit just about any home, be it a modern city apartment or rustic weekend cabin in the woods. Corduroys, plaids, checkerboards, denim, and our favorite, harlequin patchworks that bring them all together. The larger Ennis cushion model is even constructed with a base layer of Cordura which make them especially suitable for outdoor use thanks to the material’s notable resistance to tears and abrasions.
Beyond Peace Cabin’s core offering of cushions is the Wingspread Stool that perfectly complements the pentagonal Wingspread cushion (and comes with one, too). As climbers, we’re also smitten with their collection of climbing rope wrapped Utility S-Hooks, perfect for hanging gear at home. Never underestimate the value of airing out sweaty climbing gear.
We’re excited to see this cottage (cabin?) industry maker grow their business and for prospective homes to get cozier as we continue to hunker down. Stay cozy!
Handmade cushion prices range from $95 to $165 with shaker-inspired wood stools going for $325.
