Amelia Arvesen is an outdoor recreation journalist and creative thinker based in Portland, Oregon. She is perpetually in motion, whether she’s running, climbing, walking her dog, sewing another pair of linen pants, or writing her Substack newsletter, Honing Her Craft.

Amelia also contributes to Outside, Backpacker, Climbing, Adventure.com, Women's Health, Men's Journal, Texas Monthly, Via Magazine, GearJunkie, and Gear Patrol, among others.

Prior to her career in media Amelia earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Journalism and Mass Communications from the University of Kansas. She is also the co-recipient of the 2016 Victor Murdock Award for investigative reporting in Kansas.
