United By Blue Introduces Puffer Collection Made With Bison Insulation

The Philadelphia-based brand believes the 50% bison fur, 50% recycled polyester insulation is the future of down alternatives

Philadelphia’s sustainable outdoor apparel brand United By Blue believes in the bison. In the past we've seen bison leather boots and bison fiber socks (both made in collaboration with Danner), in addition to bison insulated parkas and shirt jackets utilizing the proprietary down alternative they are calling B100. And now, they’ve just released a handful of new puffer style jackets and vest for men and women made with the bison insulation. The styles are classic in design, and easy approachable. In other words, it’s the “technology” that’s the real story here.

Made of 50% recycled polyester and 50% North American bison fiber (an often discarded byproduct of the ranching industry derived from the massive animal’s natural layer of hollow, compactible, resilient fur), B100 is naturally temperate regulating, hypoallergenic, and lightweight. As such, the insulation is both a sustainable down alternative and technically functional. And when quilted into baffles, it’s reported to keep its shape over time, unlike down.

The jackets and vests themselves feature a waterproof two-layer construction with basic functionality like hand warmer pockets, drawcords at hem, and an interior phone pocket with pass through for headphones. They’re clean and easy.

Plus, as always, for every product sold, UBB removes one pound of trash from oceans and waterways through company-organized community cleanups.
