Watch out Carhartt, the workwear slash outdoor lifestyle crossover space just got a bit more competitive, thanks to the new Kodiak Skogan, released this week.
For over a hundred years, Kodiak's reputation for crafting high-quality, long-lasting, sturdy, and reliable boots have made them a cult favorite in their native Canada. Especially renowned for their work boots, the company is now going in a new direction, incorporating the outdoors into the lineup, with new, environmentally-friendly Skogan hiking collection.
The headliner of Kodiak's newly released 2021 collection, the Skogan is made from sustainable, eco-friendly materials that have earned it the distinction of being the most “environmentally considered boot in the history of the company." Style-wise, it features a throwback retro aesthetic akin to the Vasque Clarion 88 that's sure to look great on all those mountain selfies.
While the inspiration for the vintage design of the Skogan dates from the 1980s, this newest addition to Kodiak’s line also looks to the future with its use of eco-friendly, recycled materials. The textile upper is composed of 100% recycled plastic, the laces 50%, and the lining 100% recycled plastics.
Designed for comfort, durability, and athletic functionality, they are equally wearable on and off the trail, and are ideal for casual day hikes and everyday active use. Thanks to Kodiak’s stellar record for safety, you’ll be in good hands—er, feet—whether out in the wilderness or hanging around town. The rugged waterproof construction certainly helps, too.
The Comfortzone ECO footbed is also made of an innovative new bio-content product called FATES. Developed in partnership with Evoco Ltd., the plant-based eco-foam generates a super comfortable, high-performance, and environmentally-friendly insole. Traction comes courtesy of waterproof, LITE leather from ISA TanTec, which also incorporates environmental standards into their products.
Available in both low or mid top silhouettes and four different earthy colorways—though men's sizing only, for now—the Kodiak Skogan is now available for $140 and $155, respectively.
