As the gorpification of mainstream style continues to evolve, it’s fascinating to see how each micro trend or macro moment influences what I’m pitched, and what we choose to cover here at Field Mag. Not every collab hits. Not every crossover works. The recent KEEN x Gramicci release, delivering two fresh (and fuzzy) colorways of the Jasper Zionic, rose above the noise. Though less so for the logo swap and more so for largely introducing the all-new shoe to the style-conscious masses in general.

KEEN sent me a pair to test and right out of the box, the Jasper Zionic’s lineage is clear. The athletic-looking sneaker has taken the DNA of the brand’s climbing-inspired Jasper (initially debuted in 2008) and paired it with the responsive, trail-ready outsole of the recently released Zionic hiking shoe. The match delivers an eye-catching, modern sneaker with agility, comfort, and rugged characteristics. Alongside other notable new releases, like the KEEN Hightrail sneaker (new in 2025), it's clear the Portland-based brand is taking it's urban and trail crossover customer seriously.

Most notably, the new Jasper Zionic features tongue-to-toe lacing, a signature from the original Jasper that offers a snug, contoured fit for long days on the move. The ethically-sourced suede leather upper sits atop a sturdy rubber outsole with beefy 4mm multi-directional lugs and lightweight stability shank for grip and balance, delivering confidence on slick subway stairs and rocky Upstate trails.

Beyond functionality, the Jasper Zionic is visually unique, which should come as no surprise to those familiar with the KEEN UNEEK. Even the brand’s best selling Newport sandal and Targhee IV hiking boot each define their own aesthetic. Quiet outdoors be damned, KEEN footwear is as loud and crunchy as ever (and free of PFAS forever chemicals since 2018, ofc).

At the end of the day, we like our KEEN to look funky, feel comfy, and wear well in a range of environments. The Consciously Created Jasper Zionic delivers on this ask, whether styled for a hike, the office, or around town errands. And while my testing continues, so does KEEN’s journey to create the world’s cleanest shoes. Stay tuned for more on both fronts.
