Portland, Oregon-based outdoor brand Columbia Sportswear raids its own closet to search for designs, details, and patterns for its new CSC1938 Volume 1 collection. As you might suspect, the 1938 in the collection’s name refers to the brand's founding date, while CSC is just a shortening of its full name: Columbia Sportswear Company.

Anchored by the convertible CSC1938 Dually Mountain Outerchange ($425) jacket, the CSC1938 collection is complemented by graphic apparel and headwear featuring collection branding and vintage details carried over from the hero outerwear. Look for the collection going live on Columbia’s webstore and through select premium retailers on Friday, 16 January 2026.

CSC1938 Dually Mountain Outerchange

The CSC1938 Dually Mountain Outerchange jacket consists of two distinct interlocking parts that can be worn three ways, either separately or combined. Available with either an all-black or duck-camo-printed inner jacket, the base jacket features Responsible Down Certified 700-fill goose down and additional warmth from its Omni-Heat Infinity lining, which reflects thermal energy back to the wearer’s body. While vintage-hued duck camo prints are generally easy to come by, Columbia designers scanned archive hunting jackets to build the duck camo, repeated again in a panel cap and long sleeve tee.

Mated to long, vertical zippers flanking the front of the jacket, the outer vest equips the down jacket with a stupendous arsenal of cargo pockets of varying sizes. At the rear, a large dual-sided drop-in pocket draws on traditional game pockets found on hunting jackets. While its wearers might not need to stash doves, pheasants, or other small game, it could certainly be adapted to a sandwich, periodical, or a winter accessory.

Standing out from other logo wear pieces, Columbia rehashes the design of the Dually Mountain Outerchange’s outer vest and the spirit of the classic tuxedo print t-shirt with the CSC1938 V1 Short Sleeve, printed front and back with a line contour of the vest’s pocket layout. You’re pretty much inviting friends to reach into the simulated pockets, but that’s just part of the fun.

While we’re unsure of when and during what season Volume two of the CSC1938 collection will arrive, we hope that Columbia can continue to deliver the same level of fun and functionality found in these key pieces. The full nine-piece CSC1938 Volume 1 collection comes online Friday, 16 January 2026 from Columbia.
