The best collaborations go beyond an easy logo swap to actually embody the spirit of both brands working together. Thankfully, South Korean outdoor lifestyle label CAYL and New Balance have taken the path less traveled for their newest collaboration: a comprehensive trail running and hiking-focused collection.
Building on the foundation of the brands' first footwear collaboration released in 2021—a CRV ZIP and CRV SLIDE catering to casual hikers and campers—the all new FW23 CAYL x New Balance collaboration features two hero footwear styles plus six pieces of apparel (including down, fleece, and pants) plus two backpacks, a sacoche, socks, and premium running hat. All available in unisex sizing.
The CAYL x New Balance 610T ($160) offers the seamless transition from city streets to mountain trails. It features a unique overlay pattern of premium hairy suede panels in a deep olive colorway over the lighter ripstop-like fabric for contrasting visuals.
The black lugged outsoles feature a unique set of angles and bold patterns that can withstand any outdoor condition while the EVA cushioned midsole and co-branded sock liner provide long-lasting comfort. Additional visual details include an embroidered mountain logo at the vamp and utilitarian reflective panels at the heel.
In contrast to the 610T collaboration that focused on rugged details for hiking activities, the CAYL x New Balance Fresh Foam X More Trail v3 ($175) is the ultimate trail running shoe. Front and center at the shoe’s design is the Vibram outsole that utilizes its Traction Lugs technology for traction on loose and sandy surfaces. The all-grey shoe features an engineered mesh upper for breathability and comfort while integrating another iteration of CAYL’s grid design in a haptic print. The reflective details return in the Fresh Foam X More Trail v3 through the “N” logo while CAYL further makes its imprint in the co-branded inserts.
The New Balance and CAYL 610T and the Fresh Foam X More Trail v3 are now available globally from New Balance online and from select global brick and mortar retailers. The remainder of the apparel collection is available exclusively from CAYL.
