Fresh off a humbling weekend of bouldering just a few miles outside NYC with our friends at The Project Magazine, we're excited to share another story of climbing from our fair city. The aptly named Climbing Collection from design-minded outdoor outfitter Westerlind introduces a modest line of unisex apparel celebrating the pioneers of mountaineering.

A handful of key pieces make up the Climbing Collection, ranging from wide-leg, cropped pants and shorts to a jumpsuit—all made in a sturdy 100% cotton ripstop fabric—to a series of French terry knitwear made of 55% hemp and 45% organic cotton. The natural materials and generous silhouettes make for a comfortable fit at home both around town and at the local crag.

As a nod to those out there rolling their eyes and whispering “cotton kills” to themselves, the Westerlind crew headed out to Boulder, Colorado to prove the collection’s functionality in the field with mountaineering legend Gary Neptune. Together the crew, along with badass adventure photographer Max Lowe, scaled some slabs at nearby Flatirons, having a bit of fun bringing things back to a level of technology originally found in the sport’s early days, and shooting some photos in the process.

Of the kit we’re most keen on the shorts with deep, dual wrap around pockets, and the hemp blend knits. And of course, the jumpsuit is pretty all-time too. The collection is available in three colorways (natural white, forest green, light grey) and available from Westerlind IRL and online.
