Germany's Finest Kalan Knife

A handmade buck knife deserving of heirloom status

They say you should never accept a knife for free, but rather offer something up in return. Even a penny will do—it's the gesture that matters. If you ascribe to such ways, and have 268,000 pennies, then the gorgeous Kalan Knife can be yours. The sturdy buck knife is made in collaboration between German-based knife maker Otter-Messer and renowned German bladesmith Ulrich Hennicke, whose knives are known for their functional beauty.

The 3.35" bladed Kalan Knife (meaning otter in German) is handmade with a sweeping drop-point blade cut from high-alloy Austrian stainless steel, solid brass bolsters and robina scales. Technical details aside, it's a handsome knife worthy of multiple lifetimes. Just make sure your son hands you a penny when he takes it as his own years from now.
